Ride In

The doors are not open yet. Everything below is what to have ready and how to be on the list the evening they are, which is a better use of your time than checking the server browser.

Server status

Checking Asking the barman who is in.

Read this before you go looking for us

The Pub is not open to the public. It is up, it is being worked on daily, and it currently appears in the server list as The Pub - Coming Soon, because that is what it is. The allowlist is on, so an unapproved account that finds the server and connects gets turned around at the door.

The player limit is set low on purpose while systems are being tested. It will be raised before opening, and until then a place at the bar is genuinely limited rather than artificially so.

If you want in on the first night, do steps one through four now. Nothing about them expires.

Five steps, about half an hour of it

How it works

  1. Own the game on PC

RedM runs on the PC version of Red Dead Redemption 2. Steam, Rockstar or Epic, it makes no difference. Red Dead Online is not involved and is not required.

The game is not supplied here and there is no console version of any of this. If you are not sure what RedM is or how it relates to Red Dead Online, the plain English explanation is here.

  2. Install RedM

RedM is free, it is made by the Cfx.re people who make FiveM, and it installs alongside your copy of the game rather than replacing it. Launch it once and let the first download finish before you go looking for servers, because that download is large and getting interrupted halfway is most of what goes wrong.

Step by step on Windows, including the handful of things that fail for most people and what to do about each.

  3. Come into the Discord

Everything to do with entry happens there. It is also where the opening date will be announced, so being in it is the whole of "tell me when it opens".

Read what is in the information channels first. Ask anything you want answered before you spend the effort on an application: nobody minds the question, and it is a fair test of us as much as of you.

    Join the Discord

  4. Put in an application

Entry is allowlisted. Connecting is not enough on its own: approval is held against your Discord account, and until it is granted the server will not let you make a character.

The application is short, and it is read by a person rather than scored by a bot. It is not a test of prose. It is there so that everybody in the world has decided to be there on purpose, which is the only thing that actually keeps a roleplay server worth playing on.

Worth knowing: the server recognises you by your Rockstar account rather than by your name, so a second copy of the game or a new Discord is not a way around a ban.

  5. Write a character

Five slots per account, so the first one does not have to be the one you keep. A character needs a first and last name, an age between eighteen and eighty, and as long as you care to spend in the appearance editor.

Names are letters only, with apostrophes and hyphens allowed for the O'Briens and the Mary-Annes. No numbers, no spaces in a single name, and nothing that reads as staff or as a system message. It is 1899, and a character called xX_Dutch_Xx is somebody else's immersion you are spending.

Deleting a character asks you to type its name back. That is deliberate, and it is the only apology you will get for how permanent it is.

Before you ask

What you need, and what you do not

A microphone

Voice is proximity based and it is how the server is played. You do not need to install anything for it: no TeamSpeak, no separate client, nothing to configure beyond picking the right microphone in Windows. It works through the game.

No mods, no trainers

Script hook is disabled on the server, which means the usual single player mod menus will not load while you are connected. Nothing else you have installed for story mode matters. Your character's appearance and your money live on our database, not in a save file.

No money at the door

Joining is free and there is nothing on this site to buy. Everything a character owns in the world is earned in the world, because buying your way past a grind would make the grind pointless, and the grind is the server.

A few hours, not a career

You can be useful to somebody inside an evening. Trades take longer, and the top of a skill is meant to be rare. Nobody is behind for having a job and a life.

Once you are in

A reasonable first evening

Spawn, walk into the nearest saloon, and talk to whoever is at the bar. That is not advice about roleplay, it is advice about economics: everything worth doing here is easier with one other person, and the fastest route to money is knowing who wants what.

Then buy the cheapest tool for the trade that appeals to you and go and do it badly for an hour. Skills move quickly at the bottom. Read The Frontier for what each trade actually involves, and the house rules before you point a gun at anybody.

Do not buy a horse on the first night. The stables rotate their stock every three days and the animal you want is probably not standing there yet.

Drink, or move along

The list is open even though the doors are not. It costs a Discord message and it saves you a week of checking.
